DBV-Technologies – harnessing the high-tech revolution to fight allergies

As more and more people develop allergies, the need to find solutions to the treatment and diagnosis of these allergies becomes ever-more pressing. At http://www.dbv-technologies.com/en/ you’ll find a raft of information about the activities of one French company which has been leading pioneering research into new techniques in this particular field.

Using a sophisticated manufacturing process, which may be seen in the image below, DBV-Technologies aims to offer a simple way of building up the body’s tolerance levels to a number of allergens. The three allergies they have been concentrating on are house dust mite, cows’ milk protein and peanut allergy, which is dealt with in more detail here: http://www.dbv-technologies.com/en/products/allergy-treatments/viaskin-peanut/. Peanut allergy is a particularly worrying allergy as it can trigger severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), which can be fatal.

The treatment method takes on the form of an adhesive patch worn upon the skin. This slowly delivers minute quantities of the offending protein (the allergen) to the body. This will build up the body’s tolerance levels until such times that the patient is able to ingest the substance in question without an allergic reaction being triggered.
